Union Road Ride
Perfectly suited for the recreational bicyclist, the Union Road ride is short loop spin within the city. The historic downtown district, Purple Sage golf course, and the Historic Roundhouse and Rail Yards are the primary highlights along this route. Schedule an additional few minutes to visit these places and discover a sample of the best that Evanston has to offer.
Beginning at Historic Depot Square, ascend to the top of 11th Street/Harrison Drive. At the top of the hill, Harrison Drive widens to a four-lane road with reduced shoulder widths. As vehicle speeds increase to 30 mph plus, remain alert to potential hazards including vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. From Harrison Drive, turn right at Wasatch Drive and proceed to Constitution Avenue. Turn right onto Constitution Avenue located immediately past a large concrete retaining wall with an attached golf course directional sign. As you pass a residential area, the road continues as Union Road signified by the purple Union Center banners located on the street light poles. Kindler Drive to your right is the entrance to the Purple Sage golf course restaurant and pro-shop. Continuing north on Union Road with Purple Sage golf course on your right, the road loops back to the Historic Roundhouse and Rail Yards and the depot. Enjoy the many fine eateries and shops conveniently located within the historic district.
