Yellow Creek Ride
A great 30+ mile out and back that can be as hard or easy as you want to ride it. Small rolling hills and occasional strong winds can make this part of a good training ride. Watch out for tanker trucks coming from a refinery at the farthest point of the route, but for the most part, traffic is low.
Starting at Depot Square take 7th Street 0.2 miles to Center Street. Turn left and continue on Center Street to 6th Street and continue south on 6th Street. As you round the softball fields to your left the road name turns to Yellow Creed Road. Staying on Yellow Creek, go under the I-80 overpass and thru the traffic lights at the intersection of Yellow Creek Road and Cheyenne Drive. Stay on Yellow Creek, ride south another 1.5 miles to a four-way intersection. Straight ahead you’ll see Evanston Regional Hospital, to your left you’ll see the Evanston School Bus Barn. Turn left and continue south past the Bus Barn on Yellow Creek. The Bus Barn is the start/end for the High Uintas Classic Timetrial course which is part of this ride for the next five miles out. Continue out on Yellow Creek south another 3 miles and you will pass over the roads namesake Yellow Creek, which will remain to your left for the next seven miles. Continue on another 3 miles as you pass ranch land, oil land and to the south an occasional glimpse of the Uinta Mountain Range to the south. When you get to the road signs that say Summit County you will be entering Utah near where the Mormon Trail crosses Yellow Creek road. To your left you’ll see a rock formation at the top of a ridge known as the "Needles", on the south end of this formation in a draw where the Mormon Trail passes. Continue south on Yellow Creek another 4 miles in Utah and you’ll re-enter Wyoming and Uinta County. Now to you right you should have a great view of the Western Uinta Mountain range. Continue on another 4 miles and you will pass a cattle guard and come to the end of Yellow Creek Road. To you right is a paved access road to Anschutz Refinery. If you were to stay on the dirt/gravel road that Yellow Creek turns into you’d reach Coalville, Utah. This is the turnaround point as you are about 17 miles out from Depot Square. Enjoy the headwind or tailwind back to Evanston
